Our 7th Blood Donation Workshop Makes a Record with More Donors

On 27th February, 2023, East Africa Medical Center held its 7th “blood donation workshop” at our main branch center at Southpoint Mall, Kabalagala – Kampala which came as a great success.

Abiselom Bahta, the general manager said it was to their surprise that at least 83 good-hearted people from the Eritrean Community opted to be a part of the event.

“The main objective of the blood donation workshop was to guarantee blood access for all, especially pregnant women who usually suffer from blood deficiency.” – said Abiselom Bahta, General Manager – East Africa Medical Center.

Mr. Bahta continued by expressing his gratitude and happiness towards blood donors who were willing to share part of their lives. In a special way, he thanked the founders and members of the Voluntary Blood Donors Association that was established on 29/08/2021 and has been active in six (6) donation workshops so far.

“This program is growing from time to time and today we are very happy because many people have come which means that the number is growing which more encouraging and proving that we have a society of people dedicated to everything for a positive cause.
” – Mr. Bahta said.

According to Bahta, for the seven blood donation events, there has been a steady increase in the amount of blood donated as shown:

Some participants were excited for being a part of the life-saving event and thanked East Africa Medical Center hospital for the initiative.

“I came to donate blood, but I was very happy when I arrived to see many young people are here to donate blood. I thank them all,” – Bahre Beraki, blood donor.

He thus called upon the Eritrean community wherever they may be to come in Uganda and participate in such events whenever they are organized.

“I would request all Eritreans allover to come and participate because you never know when a disaster will happen either to you, your relative or friend. Additionally, for Ugandans to know about us, we have a duty to perform in the society.” – Beraki added.

Senait – Blood donor

“I weigh over 50kgs and my health is perfect at the moment. So I am here to donate blood. I have come 2 times before and I could not donate because I had hemoglobin concentration and now I am in good health and I am ready to donate blood. I am urging you, especially our sisters to donate replacement blood to save irreplaceable lives because a lot of blood is shed during childbirth.”

Yordanos Alem – Blood donor

“I am coming for the first time to donate blood but this friend of mine used to come before but now she could not donate because of blood combination We want to let you know that it is possible.”

Filimon Masho – Blood donor

“I am a resident of Kampala, and I know that blood donation has two benefits; saving lives and ensuring our health security. So in this way, I encourage those of you who don’t know to come and donate blood next time.”

One of the victims of blood deficiency who is undergoing treatment at East Africa Medical Center said that she used to donate blood, but now is suffering from blood shortage.

implying that by donating blood, you are adding a smile on someone’s face who would be on a clock tick to lose life, relative or friend due to blood deficiency. It is from this situation that the general manager of East Africa Medical Center said:

“I would like to say on this occasion that today is better than yesterday and tomorrow will be better than today.
