Each year on 20 June, the world celebrates World Refugee Day to honor and support people who flee to escape conflict or persecution.
Under the theme Hope Away from Home for 2023, the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and its partners organized the celebrations in Mengo, Kampala – Uganda.
East Africa Medical Center partnering with the African Humanitarian Action – AHA offered free first-aid medical care services on this day.
This partnership aims to improve access to healthcare for urban refugees, especially the Eritreans, Ethiopians, Sudanese, Somalis, Burudians, and others.
Nickson Mutaasa working as the Mental Health Nurse while talking to the revelers, reckoned the East Africa Medical Center team for their contribution towards making life better for all refugees in Uganda.
“As we commemorate World Refugee Day, we are so happy about the free medical services East Africa Medical Center is providing for whoever with need or interest. Then we also acknowledge the timely and effective referrals they give us.” – said Mr. Nickson Mutaasa.
East Africa Medical Center being people-centric ensures that all its activities, partnerships, and engagements improve the health status of all the people in communities regardless of their religious, political, or social status.
“We want to appreciate the services and acknowledge their support to the community. Because they help us identify vulnerable people in the communities that need medical support, we cannot manage to do solely.” – Mutaasa added.
Many refugees from different parts of Kampala were part of the celebrations and participated in various social activities, including; cultural dances by the Burundians, drawing, and many more.
